Letter from the Mayor

One of Historic Route 66’s most photographed landmarks is Shamrock’s renovated art deco-style Tower Station and U-Drop Inn. Youngsters will certainly recognize the Tower Station and U-Drop Inn as it’s likeness was featured in the Walt Disney movie “Cars.” Tourist from all over the world have visited this landmark built in 1938 which is located in the heart of Shamrock at the corner of Highway 83 and Historic Route 66. This stretch of Route 66 has been renamed Bill Mack Boulevard after one of our hometown celebrities.

Recently declared a Texas historical monument is the Shamrock Water Tower. It’s the tallest water tower of it’s type in the state of Texas. A park area depicting the history of it’s construction is now complete under the water tower and well worth a short drive to visit at the south end of Shamrock’s downtown business district. Like the Tower Station and U-Drop Inn, the Water Tower Plaza provides great photo opportunities, so bring your camera.

If you wish -- beer, wine and liquor is now available in convenience, grocery, package stores, some restaurants and sports bars. This along with over 600 hotel/motel rooms, great restaurants and unique shops, has made Shamrock a popular stop for I-40 and U.S. Hwy. 83 travelers.
Also, I don’t think you will find a better museum depicting the Old West and Texas Panhandle history than Shamrock’s Pioneer West Museum. Our museum is located one block east and one block north of the historic water tower at 204 N. Madden Street.

Hungry? Shamrock has some great restaurants featuring authentic Texas-style cooking. What are you hungry for?... steak, Mexican food, pizza, home-cooked dishes or popular franchise specialties? Shamrock’s got it, so enjoy.

If you’re in Shamrock on Thursday night, head towards the historic Tower Station/U-Drop Inn for a night of free entertainment beginning at 8:30 p.m. Local and area talent perform under the neon all summer long.

Shamrock’s downtown area has a variety of businesses including a movie theater, Radio Shack, Dollar General, Family Dollar, various clothing stores, a hardware and lumber yard, jewelry, gift and video stores, plus some of the finest antique shops you will find anywhere.

Your Shamrock hotel stay entitles you to a free round of golf at the Shamrock Country Club or free admission to most events that are scheduled during your stay with us.
I hope you enjoy your stay in our town and will come back to see us again.

Pridefully,
Buc Weatherby
Mayor of Shamrock
